More and better tools (drugs and analgesic technics), post- operative pain has a very high incidence up to 70% of operated patients experience moderate to severe pain and also the demand for a first dose of painkillers even in the first two hours of the immediate postoperative period.
The causes are several: the lack of measure of pain, misinterpretation by hospital staff, not proper prescription drug, no compliance schedule, and opiophobia of the medical staff, family and physicians, among others. The purpose of this chapter is to reflect on some theorical aspects and provide guidelines for the management of postoperative pain.
