Abstract

For many years we have been witnessing, with amazement, the ever-increasing growth of Neuromodulation, not only in the development of “classic” indications (chronic pain, abnormal movements, spasticity, peripheral vasculopathies) in favor of the constant evolution of technology and the acquisition of practical experiences on applications and indications, but also its notable growth as a separate subspecialty and, above all, in the number of disciplines that have recently begun to emerge, new uses in cardiology, psychiatry, gastroenterology, phoniatrics, addictions, and surprisingly disciplines that we assumed were far from ours, such as immunology and inflammatory diseases. Furthermore, the projection of technological and engineering developments is surprising, intelligent closed-circuit stimulators, electrodes with different electrical characteristics (Burst, high or low frequency, etc.) and their spatial arrangement, allowing the selection of a target along its path. according to need in each case, different locations of electrodes for classic uses and traditional products for new uses, etc., all of which envisions a future whose final horizon, far from being visible, seems to foresee almost infinite growth.
