Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a widely studied but still not fully understood condition, despite its first descriptions being 160 years old. Given the complexity of its etiological mechanisms, clinical presentation, and progression, there are gaps in information that limit the approach to patient care. While various innovative therapeutic regimens are available, they remain insufficient in many cases. Therefore, it is essential to continue researching the syndrome and, consequently, improve patient management. Along these lines, this article aims to review some concepts that may be useful for optimizing the proper management of patients with CRPS, improving professional practice, and developing better therapeutic strategies.
