We present two hundred and ten patients with chronic low back pain treated by percutaneous radiofrequency facet nerve blocks, with an 18-month post-surgical follow up.
Post surgery immediate results showed an outcome of 134 patients (64%) free of pain, 45 of them (21%) presenting mild improvement of symptoms (50% of decreasing pain), and 31 cases (15%) without any evident change. After 18 months of follow up, 56% of patients were free of pain, 33% of them experienced a mild improvement, and 11% had no improvement at all.
Morbidity was low and transitory (2 patients urinary retention, 5 patients radicular pain).
Based on our findings, we consider that percutaneous radiofrequency is a safe, effective procedure for the treatment of this condition, with evident satisfactory results
