Under the auspices of the Ministry of Health of Chile and led by our dear friend Dr. Juanita Jaque García, President of the Chilean Association for the Study of Pain (ACHED), it began on October 2, 3 and 4 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Santiago de Chile, one of the most relevant medical conclaves in Latin America on the agenda for 2008. We are referring to the VIII Chilean Congress of Pain, IV Latin American Congress of Pain and VII Chilean Spanish Conference on Pain. We had the privilege of attending an event whose scientific program was prepared by three institutions of great international prestige. The ACHED, whose Scientific Committee was led by Dr. Marcos Baabor, the Latin American Society of Functional Neurosurgery and Stereotaxia (SLANFE) with the presence of its President Dr. Fabián Piedimonte, who also currently directs the destinies of our dear Argentine Association for the Study of Pain (AAED). For its part, the Latin American Federation of Associations for the Study of Pain (FEDELAT) had the outstanding presence of its Outgoing President, Dr. Eduardo Ibarra, who, due to his purely executive character, has led FEDELAT one of the most fruitful periods of said organization, not only for the creation of new associated chapters, but also for its fight to bring the treatment of Pain to the category of “Fundamental and Inalienable Human Right.”
