Abstract

Even with its low incidence, refractory chronic hiccups present a challenge to the etiological diagnosis that may be the key to its treatment. We propose a review of the diagnosis and current treatment and also a systematic review of the literature with comparators of pharmacolo-gical management vs. electrical neuromodulation in its different modalities. Finally, a case treated with electrical modulation of the phrenic nerve is reported.
