Dear readers:
Welcome to a new edition of NeuroTarget. On this occasion, as has happened every two years in recent times, this first issue of the year is completely dedicated to the scientific production generated during the celebration of the ABCUR VIII Meeting, on May 18, 19 and 20, at the city of Montevideo, Uruguay. ABCUR, a symbolic name that involves the initials of the participating countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay), is the most important functional neurosurgery and stereotaxy meeting in the Southern Cone; a registered trademark of the exchange of experiences and knowledge between professionals who actively work in this fascinating field in the region.
Emerging from the initiative of Dr. Luiz Fernando Martins and the writer, considering the imperative need for interaction and joint work among functional neurosurgeons, in May 2002, the first ABCUR Meeting, adopting its distinctive character as a biannual scientific-social meeting, allowing the sharing of local experiences in all areas of functional neurosurgery, in an informal atmosphere of cordiality and friendship, complemented by a level of discussion and scientific excellence.
Since its first edition, and periodically and uninterruptedly, the ABCUR Meetings have successfully taken place alternately, in different cities of the host countries, closing the third cycle of rotation in this meeting number VIII that brings us together in the attractive city of Montevideo, with the generous hospitality of Dr. Humberto Prinzo and the Organizing Committee.
