Some motor disorders, mainly advanced Parkinson's disease (PD) and progressive supranuclear palsy, as well as various signs and symptoms are refractory to pharmacological treatment and classic surgical strategies, such as gait disorders, postural instability and falls from repetition. Recent evidence suggests that the Pontine Peduncle Nucleus (PPN), more broadly the “Mesencephalic Locomotor Region”, is involved in the genesis of such disorders.
